- Review the rhetorical patterns below and decide which paragraph (topic sentence) should come first, second, and third.
- MEAL plan
- Main idea (topic sentence)
- Evidence (details, examples, facts, statistics)
- Analysis (comment, opinion, explanation, comparison, synthesis, etc.) - An analysis sentence connects the evidence to the main idea of the paragraph.
- Link or summarizing sentence - conclude each body paragraph with either a linking sentence or summarizing sentence. A linking sentence connectors the main idea of the current body paragraph with the main idea of the next body paragraph.
