G.R.A.S.P. Framework explanation

The GRASPS framework is a tool for designing performance tasks that are authentic, engaging, and meaningful for students. It is an acronym for:

The GRASPS framework can be used to design performance tasks in any subject area. Here is an example of a GRASPS task for a science class:

Goal: Students will design and conduct an experiment to test the effects of different types of fertilizer on plant growth.

Role: Students will be scientists.

Audience: The audience for the experiment is the class and the teacher.

Situation: The experiment will take place in the school garden.

Product/Performance: The product of the experiment will be a written report that describes the results of the experiment and the conclusions that can be drawn from them.

Standards/Criteria: The students will be assessed on their ability to design a valid experiment, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions.
