Weaving Connections: Threads of Language, Learning, and Community
I'm Benjamin L. Stewart, an EFL teacher educator and researcher based at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes. Think of me as a learning weaver. My work involves exploring the intricate threads that connect teaching practice, learning theory, digital networks (like PLNs!), and the human element of education. With a background in curriculum, instruction, and technology (PhD & MA), I'm fascinated by how we can weave these threads together to create stronger, more vibrant learning experiences for everyone involved.
The tapestry I hope we can weave together is one of critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and genuine understanding across differences. My educational philosophy centers on guiding learners to become weavers themselves – moving from following patterns (dependency) to creating their own designs (independence), and ultimately, collaborating on beautiful, complex creations together (interdependence). The goal is a community of educators and learners who aren't afraid to experiment with new threads (Daring), openly share their patterns and processes (Sharing), and value the contributions of every other weaver (Caring).
Are you an English language professional – teacher, trainer, mentor – looking to share patterns, discover new techniques, and connect with fellow weavers? Or perhaps you're just passionate about the art and science of learning? This newsletter is our shared loom. We'll explore practical teaching threads, untangle complex learning theories, discuss language acquisition insights, and strengthen our collective professional tapestry (our PLNs!). Subscribe to get the latest patterns and insights delivered directly to you.
The assumptions that I have about education certainly don't apply to everyone, but feel that it does apply to enough educators, trainers, and coaches (including myself) that it warrants reflection that underpins my own educational philosophy.
